Dear all,
I am writing to inform you that, with great reluctance, the Wildlife Asia Film Festival is to be postponed. This has been an extremely hard decision to make, particularly after the hard work that has gone into Wildlife Asia, and the fantastic support we have received. But we have failed to find the necessary money and support needed to organise the festival this year, and with only a few months to go I felt it was too late to pull together an event that would do the industry and the issues justice, or be a suitable followup to 2007's great inaugural festival.
I loath the idea of letting you all down, and have greatly considered what a negative impact this may create on Wildlife Asia's image, but I have reached a point where I felt there was no other choice - for the long-term health of Wildlife Asia I need to sit back and work on another strategy to ensure the sustainability of the festival and the company. Until now the lack of funds has meant we have had to rely on the voluntary work of just a few people - a situation that has become more and more damaging to the festival's growth.
I would like to pay tribute to the Wildlife Asia 2007 sponsors - Animal Planet, Asia Development Board, The Media Development Authority, NHK, Singapore Tourism Board and the WWF for their invaluable support and belief in Wildlife Asia.
To all sponsors, supporters and friends, I would like to assure you that the Wildlife Asia Film Festival will be back! In the meantime I will continue on smaller initiatives such as film screenings with Singapore's National Parks Board, and student conservation filmmaking expeditions with Canon Singapore.
Please feel free to send in your emails of outrage and disappointment - the more I hear from you, the more I know the industry cares.
I hope you accept my most sincere apology for having to postpone the festival; trust that we can still rely on your support; and hope to see you at the next festival, which will be back on track again soon.
Kind regards,
Chris
